Island Adventure #2: Diamond Head Hike

The most beautiful views of the Waikiki can be found at Diamond Head State Monument Hike also known as (Le'ahi). The trail to the summit of Diamond Head was built in 1908 as part of Oahu’s coastal defense system. Diamond Head is open daily from 6 am to 6pm and the last entrance to the hiking trail is 4:30pm, gates close by 6:00pm. The entrance fee is $5/car or $1/ person for people walking in. If you live in Hawaii entrance is free. The park only accepts cash. The hike is not difficult; it’s very easy, perfect for kids. The hardest part is the staircase at the top of the hike.

Few tips: Get there early once it hits noontime it can be hot; Bring Water, if you forget there is a lunch truck; bring sunscreen, I suggest reapplying when you get to the top; wear comfortable clothing and shoes, no flip flops or sandals, it is a hike; you’ll spend about 1-1.5 roundtrip depending on your pace;. After the hike you deserve a treat! Head over to the Lunch truck and grab a cold coconut or Hawaiian Shaved Ice. Restrooms are located at the beginning of the hike Only!
